Carrollton, Missouri – Today the Carroll County Area YMCA joined the Town of Carrollton into an ordinance agreement for the use of the Carrollton City Pool for 2018. The two organizations teamed up in the summer of 2017 to give our community and YMCA members the access to an outdoor swimming pool. This collaboration was a tremendous success in 2017 and numerous community members responded well by utilizing a pool they had not visited in years. “Being a YMCA member and having the city pool as an amenity to my YMCA membership was a huge plus for our family this last summer. Our family has not attended the Carrollton City Pool as a family ever and we were able to do so this year because of this collaboration. I am excited to have a family night at the pool with my husband and kids again this summer” stated Devin Frazier, YMCA member. A growing number of YMCA members started to utilize the pool in 2017 and the City of Carrollton was ecstatic to see the increase in pool participation.

“This is a win-win situation. The city is kind enough to enter into an agreement with us to allow our members usage of a pool that is already here. It’s key to collaborate with other organizations and utilize the fantastic services and equipment we already have in our community” Kathy Lock, Executive Director of the Carroll County Area YMCA.

The YMCA now has over 1,200 members and wants to remind the community that if you are unable to afford a YMCA membership they have scholarships available for those who qualify. The scholarships are funded from private donations and foundations from local families, businesses and individuals who support the idea of helping those families and children who might not otherwise be able to be part of the YMCA and its developmental programs. By having scholarships available, this will help anyone who might not be able to afford to purchase pool memberships or even attend the pool. The bottom line is, the City and the YMCA want to impact as many people in our community as we can while giving them the opportunity to be healthy and possibly learn lifesaving skills such as swimming.

The YMCA has agreed on a certain price to pay the City of Carrollton to utilize their pool for their members. “We want to thank the City of Carrollton and its support in allowing us to do such a wonderful thing for our members and community” states Lock.
