Meet our Executive Director, Kathy Lock
Kathy Lock began her career with the Grand River Area Family YMCA (Chillicothe, MO) as a program director in 2003-2005. Kathy left the YMCA family to pursue a career in sales in Nashville, TN. After moving home and marrying her husband, Matt, Kathy recognized how much she missed the YMCA family and noticed a void of community connection in her hometown of Carrollton. With the help of many others in the community, the dream became a reality and the Carroll County Area YMCA was established in November 2012. Kathy was hired as the Executive Director in 2015. A 2003 Northwest Missouri State University graduate with bachelor of science degree and double major in Recreation Corporate Wellness and Park & Recreation Management, Kathy is finally living her dream of helping others become healthy and creating a positive outlet for the community to enjoy. Kathy enjoys spending time with her husband Matt, her three sons Will, Jonny, and Ben, traveling to the beach, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals while secretly rooting for the K.C. Royals & exercising.
Meet our Program Director, Bret Lyon
Hello, my name is Bret Lyon and I have worked with the Carroll County Area YMCA for 6 years in April and have loved every minute. My wife Kelsey and I moved to Carrollton 3 years ago and have two children, Kortlynn (3) and Beckham (1). In my spare time I enjoy playing sports, staying active in the weight room, golfing and supporting the Kansas City Chiefs and Michigan State Spartans. If you haven’t been in any of our wonderful programs, please come by the YMCA. We will greet you with a smile and help you in any way we can.
Thank you Bret for all you do for our Carroll County Area YMCA!
Meet our Membership Coordinator, Kaylee Kipping
This is Kaylee! She has recently moved back to her hometown of Carrollton, with a degree in Communication Studies with a double emphasis in Social Influence and Relational Communication. Her hobbies include motivational speaking, being outdoors, and staying active with her family. What she looks forward to most about working here at the YMCA is who she is working with, as well as being able to provide support and inspiration to her hometown friends. With her outgoing and bubbly personality, she makes a great asset to our team! We are so glad to have you here with us!
Meet our Child Care Director, Candace Cabinniss
We are excited to announce the hiring of our newest team member, Candace! She joined our team in mid July 2019, and is eager to get back into her hometown. After her 2007 graduation, Candace moved to Sedalia where she has spent the last 12 years. She received her degree in Early Childhood Education Development, and lead as a Director in Early Childhood for many years. She eventually found herself in a different career path gaining many years of business management skills. She’s the mom of two amazing girls, McKenna (10) and Kaylee (5). They love spending time with friends, family, while enjoying music, dancing, adventures, bike rides, fishing, and of course spa days. “I am beyond grateful to pursue a career that brings me back to the community and be a positive member for the youth of Carroll County. Please feel free to stop by the YMCA and introduce yourself!”
Meet our Personal Trainer, Daniel Watson
Hello, my name is Daniel Watson and I am originally from Chicago, but moved to St. Louis in 1999. I have a Bachelor of Science in Health Management: Exercise Science. I also have a Master of Science in Education: Athletic Administration. And I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
I married my wife at LaBella Casa in June 2018 and we live here in town. Her parents live just north of town, so we spend a lot of time with them. My parents live in Chesterfield, MO, about 30 minutes west of downtown St. Louis.
I enjoy reading my Bible and praying, spending time with my family, weightlifting, playing and watching sports and cartoons. I have 4.5 years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience, so I am interested in a multitude of sports (curling included). I am interested in learning how to build things with my own hands (and tools). I also enjoy yard work, cooking with our fire pit, camping, hiking, using power tools, and drawing.
Meet our Personal Trainer, Sam Freels
The YMCA would like to welcome our new Certified Personal Trainer and fitness instructor, Samantha Freels.
Samantha is originally from Salisbury, MO and moved to Texas after graduation where she first became a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). After living there for 5 years she was relocated back to Carrollton, MO due to Hurricane Harvey. Samantha currently enjoys hanging out with her two dogs and working out.
Samantha is excited to get started helping you reach your best self possible. Stop in and try a session with Samantha or take one of her amazing fitness classes.
